The default sizes of the input and output buffers used by a remote application are 1024 bytes and 128 bytes, respectively.  You can change these buffer sizes via the inbufsize and outbufsize remote characteristics.  If you are losing input characters because of input-buffer overflow, try increasing the input buffer size or enabling XON/XOFF, via the tandem remote characteristic, if it is not already enabled.
