An ESL for Windows local application is a special type of Windows application that is designed to communicate with ESL by sending and receiving character data.  Because it is a Windows application, it can execute concurrently with ESL for Windows, just like other Windows applications.  Unlike standard Windows applications, however, an ESL for Windows local application does not display any windows on the screen.
